This coalition was formed by the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation in response to the organization’s research into the economic impact of the drug addiction crisis. The official kick-off of Mass. C.A.R.E.S. – an acronym for Communication and Awareness around Recovery programs and Employer Support – was today in Boston.

Health Care

Health care is a multi-faceted issue that MTF analyzes from many different perspectives. The state’s Medicaid Program, MassHealth, is the largest single spending program in the state’s annual operating budget and is funded by both state and federal funds. MTF examines spending trends and how the growth in this program impacts other areas of state spending. The Commonwealth is also one of the largest purchasers of health care as both a large employer and a purchaser of health care services for other programmatic spending.
